Chappaqua is a Hamlet within the Town of New Castle. It is approximately 30 miles north of Manhattan. Perhaps its most notable residents are Bill and Hillary Clinton. Chappaqua is a small town (population of only 1,436 as of the 2010 Census) with a small town feel. Its quaint downtown is lined with small shops such as Desires by Mikolay, Great Stuff, Pettycoat Lane, Family Britches, and Breeze. After a morning of shopping, you can stop in for a hot bagel at Bagel Emporium on King Street or an Asai bowl from Bobo’s at the train station. Or, dine al fresco at Le Jardin Du Roi, Taco Street, Pizza Station or Ibiza.
A mile or two north of downtown Chappaqua, in the space formerly occupied by Reader’s Digest headquarters, is Chappaqua Crossing, an upscale village boasting a Whole Foods, Lifetime Fitness, a drive-thru Starbucks, Pet Valu, Chase Bank and other retail stores. The renovated historic Cupola Building at Chappaqua Crossing contains 64 apartments and provides a unique mix of market rate and affordable one-to-three-bedroom housing units. The North Village of Chappaqua Crossing will soon feature 91 Georgian-style townhomes, offering 20 three-bedroom and 71 two-bedroom residences. Amenities will include a clubhouse with exercise and meeting rooms, landscaped terraces and gardens, and access to on-site walking trails. Nearby, the 300-seat Wallace Auditorium offers a setting for community functions.
Chappaqua’s high-ranking schools tend to draw young families from Manhattan and surrounding areas, making it a family-friendly town. The median value of a single-family home in Chappaqua as of October 2020 was $882,443.
In addition to its bustling downtown and high-ranking schools, Chappaqua has parks and hiking trails, a weekly farmer’s market, and a gazebo where summer concerts are held.
